The two simple elements of shape and colour form the basis for all my work. They provide an endless source of fascination and means of self expression. For the past few years I have concentrated on creating imaginary landscapes using a variety of fluid paints and mediums with the act of pouring playing a vital part in describing a once thriving force. Since my early teens, when I discovered the work of Juan Gris the Cubist, who made his still lifes with torn and cut segments of French newspapers and bits of frayed wine label, I have been fascinated by collage. Much of my work is inspired by the coastal landscape of North Cornwall. The Polly Joke abstracts are a series of pictures made from re-cycled canvas, sand and debris found on Polly Joke beach near Crantock.
I combine naturalism with expressive colour to create a painting that is joy to look at. Oil on linen, 100cm x 100cm. This beautiful Lion has been created with only the finest quality materials. Natural linen canvas is visible in the layers of oil paint. A black background enhances the drama of the piece. A traditional oil painting, with a delightful contemporary twist that will complete any room in your home.
